Potato salad „Bramborový salát”

Potato salad is a typical side dish served with fried carp on the Christmas Eve. It has been also very often served with “schnitzel” or as a spreading on the popular Czech open sandwiches “chlebíčky”. Let the salad sit for a little bit. After a couple of days in the fridge, the salad will taste much better.

Bramborový salát

Ingredients

  • 2 kg of potatoes
  • 3-4 carrots
  • 1 celery root
  • Onion
  • 5 pickles
  • 4 hard-boiled eggs
  • Canned peas
  • 300 g of ham
  • Spoon of mustard
  • Mayonnaise and tartare sauce (according to your taste)
  • Salt and pepper

Boil unpeeled potatoes in water with salt and let them cool down. Then peel the potatoes and cut them into small cubes. Boil celery and carrots in water with a pinch of salt and vinegar. Let cool down and cut into small cubes and mix with the potatoes. Add chopped onion and pickles, cubed boiled eggs, peas, cubed ham and mix together. Blend in mustard and mayonnaise, season with salt and pepper. You can also pour in a little bit of brine from pickles.
