Traditional South Bohemian Mushroom Soup „Jihočeská Kulajda”

“Kulajda” is a very popular soup in South Bohemia, but it is made in households in the whole country. Recipes for this soup are various. Some people prefer cooking it using sweet cream and some prefer using sour cream. Others do not season it with dill. The mushrooms can be either fresh, dried or pickled.

  • 6 medium-large potatoes
  • 1 can of sour cream
  • 1 cup of mushrooms
  • 4 eggs
  • 1-2 spoons of vinegar
  • 3 allspice
  • 3 peppercorns
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Caraway
  • 2 spoons of flour
  • Butter
  • Dill and salt

Directions:

Clean and slice mushrooms. Melt butter in a pot and stirfry mushrooms. Add cubed potatoes, allspice and salt and cover with water. Cook until potatoes are softer, then remove allspice and add sour cream with flour and boil. Season with vinegar, salt and chopped dill. In a different pot, bring water to boil and add one tablespoon of vinegar, gently put in one egg at a time and slowly boil for 3-4 minutes. Remove egg and put it in cold water. Place egg on a plate with soup.
